Master Of Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Analysis)

The Malla Reddy College of Pharmacy offers a two-year full-time M Pharm program in the Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis from 2011 onwards.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

To provide a comprehensive advanced pharmaceutical education leading to M Pharm Degree. To integrate pharmacy knowledge and skills with pharmaceutical research and develop pharmacists to contribute effectively in the social health care system. To provide hands on training through state of art infrastructure to inculcate research aptitude in pharmaceutical sciences and to inculcate leadership and entrepreneurship capabilities in future pharmacy professionals.

A Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) in Pharmaceutical Analysis is a postgraduate academic degree program that focuses on the advanced study of techniques and methods used in the analysis and quality control of pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceutical Analysis is a branch of pharmaceutical sciences that involves the identification, quantification, and evaluation of drugs and related substances. The M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Analysis program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and skills in analytical techniques used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Here are key aspects of an M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Analysis program:

  1. Duration:

    • The program usually has a duration of two years, divided into four semesters. However, the duration may vary depending on the country and specific university requirements.
  2. Eligibility:

    • Candidates generally need to have a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Admission may also be subject to performance in entrance exams, interviews, or other criteria set by the institution.
  3. Curriculum:

    • The curriculum of the M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Analysis program includes theoretical and practical aspects of pharmaceutical analysis, instrumental techniques, and quality assurance. Common courses include:
      • Advanced Pharmaceutical Analysis
      • Instrumental Methods of Analysis
      • Quality Control and Quality Assurance
      • Regulatory Affairs in Pharmaceuticals
      • Chromatographic Techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC)
      • Spectroscopic Techniques (e.g., UV-Vis, IR, NMR)
      • Bioanalytical Techniques
  4. Research and Dissertation:

    • M.Pharm programs often include a research component where students are required to conduct independent research in a specific area of pharmaceutical analysis. The research is typically presented in the form of a dissertation or thesis.
  5. Laboratory Work:

    • Practical aspects of the program involve extensive laboratory work, where students gain hands-on experience in using analytical instruments and methods commonly employed in pharmaceutical analysis.
  6. Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance:

    • The program may cover topics related to quality assurance, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical industry.
  7. Seminar and Presentations:

    • Students may be required to participate in seminars and presentations to enhance their communication and presentation skills, as well as to share their research findings.
  8. Career Opportunities:

    • Graduates with an M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Analysis have various career opportunities, including roles in pharmaceutical research and development, quality control, analytical research, regulatory affairs, and academia.
  9. Pharmaceutical Industry Roles:

    • Graduates may work in pharmaceutical companies in roles such as analytical chemist, quality control analyst, research scientist, or in regulatory affairs and compliance.
  10. Further Studies:

    • Some graduates may choose to pursue further studies, such as a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Analysis, for those interested in advanced research and academic careers.

It’s important to note that the specific details of the M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Analysis program can vary between universities and countries, so prospective students should review the curriculum and admission requirements of the specific institution they are interested in.

The principle remit of the department is analytical method development, method validation, food analysis, techniques relevant to quality control and bio-analytical analysis. The department specializes in training students in developing their knowledge and problem solving skills in pharmaceutical analysis. The department of Pharmaceutical Analysis has five laboratories, including the one earn marked for Advanced Instrumentation Centre.

The research laboratory in the department is equipped with sophisticated analytical instruments like
