Pharmacology lab

Pharmacology Laboratory

Pharmacology is a science of medical drug and medication, including a substance’s origin, composition, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic use, and toxicology. More specifically, it is the study of the interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that affect normal or abnormal biochemical function

Pharmacology laboratory was started as full-fledge research laboratory with well equipped facilities and qualified staffs. The Animal house attached to Pharmacology is registered with CPCSEA. Registration was issued for purpose of “Research for Education and Breeding for In-house use of small animals”. The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee was approved by CPCSEA.

The main objective of establishing the laboratory is to undertake Pharmacological studies on drugs and formulations to elucidate the safety profile of selected preparations. Training and supervision provided to B Pharm, M pharm and Pharm D students.

The Pharmacology laboratory is well equipped with instruments related to evaluation of test drugs for CNS activity such as plus maze, rota rod, activity cage behavior system, electro-convusiometer, grip strength meter, tunnel board, open field etc. plethysmometer is used for anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activity; digital Hot plate and Tail-flick analgesiometer for analgesic activity, digital Telethermometer for antipyretic activity of drugs. The other instruments are deep freezer, high speed centrifuge, autocalve, and  UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Shimadzu), other routinely used instruments in the laboratory.

Pharmaceutics lab

Pharmaceutics Laboratory

Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with all facets of the process of turning; a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication able to be safely and effectively used by patients in the community. Pharmaceutics deals with the formulation of pure drug substance into a dosage form. Branches of pharmaceutics include the study of relationship between drug formulation, delivery, disposition and clinical response. The lab is used for the study of formulations of various dosage forms like solid, liquid, semi solid and other dosage forms.

The Department has different laboratories to deal with the curricular content in the areas of pharmaceutics, physical pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical microbiology, pharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical technology, industrial pharmacy and biopharmaceutics in the B.Pharm.

The Department also comprises of two PG laboratories PG Lab – I for regular practical’s, and PG Lab – II exclusively for Research and Development of novel drug delivery systems.

Major Equipment’s Available:

  • Tablet punching machine & Dissolution rate test apparatus
  • Disintegration test apparatus & UV/ VIS Spectrophotometer
  • Laminar Air Flow & Brookfield viscometer & Humidity control oven
  • Analytical Balance, Hot Air Oven, Friability test apparatus & Probe Sonicator.
Chemistry Lab

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory

Pharmaceutical chemistry is the study of drugs, and it involves drug development. It is a multi-disciplinary field of study that utilizes synthetic organic chemistry in conjunction with developments in biochemistry, computational chemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology to advance drug discovery.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Labs are well equipped with latest instruments to impart practical training to the students. The department has a Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab I (Inorganic / Organic Chemistry Lab), Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab II (Pharmaceutical Analysis Lab), Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory III and central instrumental laboratory.

These well furnished laboratories provide facilities for practical training in pharmaceutical medicinal chemistry, synthesis and structural elucidation of medicinally important compounds, practical training is also offered in organic chemistry with well designed experiments.

Analysis lab

Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory

At the graduate level, the department is involved in imparting theoretical as well as practical knowledge of the subject that a student needs to acquire the current scenario of quality control and quality assurance of pharmaceutical substances as per the need of the Pharmaceutical Industry and regulatory requirement. The subject includes an introduction to pharmacopoeias (IP, BP, USP and others) and different analytical methodologies used in pharmacopoeias for the analysis of drug substances and drug products.

The department provides an exhaustive postgraduate programme focused on research and coursework relating to the most recent advances in pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis, quality assurance as well as regulatory affairs. The students are motivated for overall development, including personality development, scientific writing, data interpretation,

Machine room

Machine Room

Machine room featuring a variety of machines needed for different unit functions that mimic those of a pharmaceutical industry unit. The machine room, which is furnished with the newest gear and equipment, is utilized for formulation and development studies as well as pilot projects in the areas of injectables, tablets, capsules, liquid orals, and ointments. There is a 24-hour stable electric power supply system in the machine room. The student can acquire both fundamental and practical knowledge in pharmacy with the aid of instruments such as the UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Tablet Punching Machine, Tablet Disintegration Apparatus, Tablet Dissolution Apparatus, Colorimeter, Fluorimeter, Polarimeter, and Refractometer. The institute has set up a facility for carrying out various investigations related to the formulation and development of various drug types.

Medicinal Garden

The well-established medicinal plant garden is available in an area of about 200 sq.mts.The aim of this garden is to preserve a collection of the most prevalent and significant species of aromatic and medicinal plants that are utilized in routine basic healthcare. The Department of Pharmacognosy is in charge of maintaining the medicinal garden.

  • The garden occupies 200 square meters in total.
  • The garden’s border is clearly marked.
  • It appears as though the garden overlook is a permanent installation.
  • Weeds cannot harm any of the plants in the therapeutic garden.
  • Adequate water supply, enough shade, and enough sunlight are maintained.
  • Name plates are also used to identify the species.
The pleasure of having a herbal garden with over 60 species of significant medicinal and aromatic plants maintained on campus belongs to Malla Reddy College of Pharmacy.
